ABOUT MEGAN
As the owner/pet lover of Happy Hearts Pet Care, I would love to take this opportunity to tell you about me and how I started this business.
I have always loved animals! Ever since I was a kid I have been drawn to animals everywhere I go and loved spending time with them. I've been lucky enough to have a variety of pets during my life including dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, rabbits and turtles. My most recent pets have been senior dogs that I adopted either from their families or from shelters. My current love is a 15 year old Springer Spaniel named Scout (featured on the home page).
My dream was always to go to Africa to see the wild animals in their natural habitat. From 2002-2004 I was volunteering at Utah's Hogle Zoo and that dream came true as I went on a safari in Kenya with some of the staff and other volunteers. Seeing the animals roam in wide open spaces, living their best life was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I have had a really hard time seeing animals in enclosed spaces ever since. So I think deep down that instilled a desire for me to do what I can to help animals live their most comfortable, natural, loving lives. For domestic animals that means staying in the comfort of their own home when their people can't be there to take care of them. I have been pet sitting on the side for friends and neighbors for years, (because they all knew how much I loved spending time with their pets), especially when I was in between having pets of my own and really needing and wanting to give that extra attention.
So in winter of 2018 I was booked almost every night and weekend with house and pet sitting and I was LOVING IT! I couldn't wait to leave my day job to go stay with these furry friends of mine at their houses. I had never wanted to start a business, I didn't know anything about running a business, all I knew was I wanted to spend WAY more time with the animals than anything else. So I left that job, and ultimately anything else that could potentially get in the way of pet sitting.
I officially started the business in January of 2019 and was doing it full time by June. I also started volunteering at Davis County Animal Shelter so that I could give the animals that are stuck in cages some much needed TLC and hopefully help find them loving forever families. I wish I could express how much joy it brings me to walk into client's homes, often being greeted with happy squeals, purrs, wagging tails and even favorite toys. When they are missing their families I am there to love them, comfort them, snuggle them and make sure that all of their basic needs are met along with giving my clients the peace of mind that all is well at their home while they are away.
